The Deportation Data Project collects and posts public, anonymized U.S. government immigration enforcement datasets. We use the Freedom of Information Act to gather datasets directly from the government, and we also post datasets that the government has posted proactively or in response to others’ requests. We expect these datasets to be used by journalists, researchers, lawyers, and policymakers.
As a first step, we posted the main datasets that we know of; in most cases, these datasets are out of date. We received our first update from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in March; we are continuing to seek other updates, and we will post those updates as we receive them.
We post mostly individual-level datasets. Individual-level data is most useful to those with a background in data analysis, allowing these users to make their own decisions about how to analyze the data.
We also provide links to related projects that offer analyses, visualizations, and reports for journalists, attorneys, and the public based on these datasets. If you have questions or suggestions about the data, please feel free to contact us.

This download includes hundreds of pages of documents — including emails, calendars, expense reports, and other records — obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs through the Freedom of Information Act showing how three outside advisers who often meet at Mar-a-Lago wield vast influence over the agency. The documents range from February 2017 to April 2018 and were released to ProPublica between May and August 2018.
